Course Description

The course is an introduction to the concepts, methods and approaches of a lean management system – the management system associated with the Toyota Motor Company – and the practical application of lean through a hands-on Lean Healthcare simulation. Participant teams bring real life problems and develop lean solutions to these problems during the week-long course.

How You Will Benefit

Through participating in this course you will:

  • Experience the impact of lean practices on a simulated process, including the basics of flow, pull, 5S, standardized work, workload balancing, cross-training and communication.
  • Learn how to apply lean techniques to eliminate waste.
  • Create Value Stream Maps (VSMs) using healthcare based case studies.
  • Sharpen A3 reporting skills for healthcare environments using the Toyota Production System (TPS) methodology.
  • Identify specific ways to increase throughput, reduce waste, increase profitability and reduce lead times to make your organization more competitive.

Attendees will each receive a copy of Stories From My Sensei, a course notebook and materials for live simulations.

Prerequisites

It is recommended students complete the Lean Healthcare Introduction - A Case Study Review (HLTH 1012) course before taking this one.
