Course Description

Telework can be a reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities who must work from home. However, additional accommodations to the home office may be needed to help them telework effectively. This course describes types of telework, examines common work tasks, and explores the range of accommodations that might be used to help employees with disabilities perform these tasks.

Learning Objectives

Students will learn to:

  • Clarify the expectations of employers and employees regarding teleworking for employees with disabilities
  • Define the difficulties that may likely be encountered in the process of workplace modifications for telework
  • Provide modifications to promote successful telework

Course Materials

All students will need access to a computer with Internet connection, speakers, and microphone. Sessions are interactive, and students are expected to take part in discussion.

Instructor

Karen Milchus is a Research Engineer at Georgia Tech's Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA). She is Co-Director of the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) on Workplace Accommodations, whose mission is to identify, design, develop, and promote new assistive and universally designed technologies that maximize independence and participation of people with disabilities in the workplace.
