Course Description

This course focuses on the issues of teleworking for employees with disabilities. Advances in distance communication allow employees with significant disabilities to accomplish a broader range of assignments with less difficulty through teleworking. The course describes the advantages of allowing teleworking in the workplace, both to the employer who increases the company's productivity and the employee with a disability who gains access to a wider variety of jobs.

Learning Objectives

Students will learn to:

  • Decide when teleworking is a reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities
  • Identify the pros and cons of teleworking for employees with disabilities
  • Identify and discuss the productivity gains in teleworking for employees with disabilities

CEUs and CRCC are available upon course completion.

Course Materials

All students will need access to a computer with Internet connection, speakers, and microphone. Students are expected to participate in discussion in addition to the lecture material.

Shelley Kaplan is a Research Associate at CATEA, Principal Investigator/Project Director for the Southeast Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center (DBTAC), and Co-Principal Investigator for the Accessible Distance Education Grant.
