Professional Education Subject
Modeling & Simulation
Modeling & simulation is no longer limited to the military or government. It is now a vital skill in the fields of health care, training, education, weather forecasting, transportation, infrastructure, entertainment, testing media and art. The courses focus on areas in the engineering or practical domain that use or emphasize modeling & simulation.
Courses In This Subject
- Distributed Simulation Fundamentals (DEF 4002P)—
Distributed simulation first appeared in the 1960s with the development of a two-player interactive computer game. Today several industry standards have evolved that enable the networking of dissimilar, heterogeneous simulations.
- Fundamentals of Combat Modeling (DEF 4011P)—
Examine how modelers develop combat or conflict models and how the results are used.
- Fundamentals of Modeling (DEF 4001P)—
Look at the intuitive process by which scientist develop simulation models.
- Guidance, Navigation, and Control: Theory and Applications (DEF 1004P)—
Understand the principles of navigation by inertial, celestial, and radio (including GPS) methods, the principles of guidance and control of 6-DOF motion, the characteristics and noise models of sensors, and the dynamic behavior of controlled and guided systems.
- Modeling & Simulation for Systems Engineering (DEF 4003P)—
Explore modeling & simulation, by using the modeling & simulation lifecycle as an outline for exploring systems engineering concepts.
- Modeling & Simulation in Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems (DEF 4007P)—
Develop the techniques of modeling & simulation of modern electro-optical and infrared systems. These techniques can be applied to systems design, analysis, test & evaluation, and performance assessment.
- Modeling & Simulation in Radar Systems (DEF 4004P)—Develop the techniques for modeling & simulation of modern radars that can be applied to radar systems design, analysis, test & evaluation, and performance assessment.
- Modeling & Simulation of Antennas (DEF 4009P)—
Focus on commercial modeling codes and custom modeling codes in MATLAB and/or Simulink for modeling various types of antennas.
- Modeling & Simulation of RF Electronic Warfare Systems (DEF 4006P)—
Develop the techniques for modeling & simulation of electronic attack systems as countermeasures to modern radar, communications, surveillance systems and RF-weapons, electronic protection designs, and systems to provide counter-countermeasure protection for modern RF systems and weapons.
- Modeling Target Acquisition with Electro-Optical Imagers (DEF 4008P)—Explore the theory and application of the target acquisition performance models.
- Scientific Principles of Test and Evaluation (DEF 5006P)—
Review the objectives of developmental, operational, live-fire, and interoperability testing and how they fit in the acquisition lifecycle, along with the basics of modeling & simulation and the relationship to systems engineering.
- SysML 205 - Model Builder Fundamental Concepts and OCSMP Level 2 Exam Preparation (DEF 4515P)—
Expanding upon model building concepts covered in SysML 201, this course helps participants to enhance and extend concepts for creating SysML models in their daily work applications; sharpen OCSMP test-taking abilities with in-class exercises and discussions; and prepare for the OCSMP Model Builders- Fundamental (Level 2) exam. Our instructors are members of the OCSMP exam authoring committee who provide you with valuable insights on concepts and applications.
Note: Taking our courses is a great step towards OCSMP certification. Completing our courses, however, does not guarantee you will pass the corresponding OCSMP exams. Each student is responsible for additional preparation and self-study.
- Test & Evaluation Using Modeling & Simulation (DEF 5002P)—
Review the basics of test & evaluation and modeling & simulation.
