Important Course Information
There are five (5) sessions in this live online course plus one (1) 90-minute practice exam. Each offering normally covers these sessions over a 3-week period. Participants will have access to course materials for an additional 5 weeks after sessions are complete.
This course is scheduled two days per week for 3 weeks at a specified time. Alternate start times may be available. Please contact Dr. Russell Peak at russell.peak@gatech.edu to discuss alternate start times or any other schedule requests.
Course Description
This model-based engineering course builds on concepts presented in SysML 101 by helping participants to:
- Sharpen and extend the SysML concepts to daily work applications,
- Learn about test-taking strategies with in-class exercises and discussions
- Prepare for the OCSMP Model User (Level 1) exam.
Topic reviews and added material lead to a deeper and broader understanding of concepts covered in SysML 101 (including how to interpret constructs on all 9 types of SysML diagrams). Participants take a mini practice quiz for each topic, and we discuss the answers to provide invaluable insights. We explain the structure and thought processes behind the OCSMP exams and describe strategies to increase your likelihood of success on the Level 1 exam!
Note: While our courses are great preparation for the OCSMP exams, you will also need to study your own. Completing our courses does not guarantee you will pass the corresponding OCSMP exams. Each person is responsible for additional preparation and self-study. Instructors are members of the OCSMP exam authoring committee.
Who Should Attend
- Engineers
- Scientists
- Managers
- Technicians
How You Will Benefit
Participants completing this course will be able to:
- Understand additional key constructs contained in each type of SysML diagram (e.g., more depth on use cases, requirements, packages, blocks (including internal structure and parametrics), activities, interactions, state machines, and so on per the OCSMP exam structure).
- Apply SysML concepts and tools in their day-to-day work (e.g., interpret SysML models during design reviews and provide valuable feedback).
- Distinguish between good models and poor models, as reinforced through practice questions and related discussion in this course.
- Describe the OCSMP exam structure and related preparation and test-taking strategies.
What Is Covered
- Course overview; blocks, instances, packages
- Internal structure, parametrics
- Activities, interactions, state machines
- Use cases, requirements; cross-cutting concepts
- Practice exam (via timed t-square setup)
- Practice exam results; Q/A
Course Materials
Attendees will each receive presentation material and practice question explanations; practice questions and practice exam.
Prerequisites
Attendees must complete the Model-Based Engineering Using SysML: Essentials for Understanding SysML Models (SysML 101) (DEF 4508P) course before taking this one. Equivalent experience may be accepted upon instructor approval.
