Course Description

Two great courses in one!

Basic Energy:  This course provides the learner with necessary information about Basic Energy.  This information is beneficial when taking either the ISO 50001 Energy Lead Auditor Training or the Certified Practitioner Training.  Students who plan to take the ISO 50001 Energy Lead Auditor training must take this course, and pass all knowledge checks at 80% before attending the face-to-face training.

Introduction to ISO 50001:  This course covers the elements of ISO 50001 and what they require. It is a prerequisite for the Energy Lead Auditor course that meets the knowledge requirements of the RABQSA Energy Auditor personnel certification program.  It is also recommended for those seeking Certified Practitioner Training.  It includes Management Responsibility, Energy Policy, Energy Planning, Implementation and Operation, Checking, and Management Review. Interactive activities are provided in the areas of choosing scope and boundaries, assessing resources given to the energy team, assessing the communication of roles and responsibilities, evaluating an energy policy, and evaluating methods to identify legal and other requirements.

What Is Covered

Upon completion of these courses, the successful learner will be able to describe or identify the following concepts and terms:

Basic Energy:

  • Describe Energy Fundamentals

    • Commonly used units of measurement
    • Conversion of measurement units
    • Consistency of measurement units (e.g., kilowatt vs. kwh)
    • Primary energy sources
    • Energy baseline
    • Basic energy balance
    • Primary versus secondary energy sources

Introduction to ISO 50001

  • Define terms used in ISO 50001.
  • Understand the concepts of energy use, consumption, and performance by giving an example of each.
  • Recognize the Plan-Do-Act-Check model and how ISO 50001 fits.
  • Identify criteria within each clause that must be met to attain registration to ISO 50001.
