Course Description

Explain the roles and uses of XML. Identify correctly formed XML elements and files. Perform simple verification of XML files against a DTD. Identify tools used for XML Schema construction. Transform an XML file into HTML using XSLT transformation. Provide human-readable formatting of an XML file via CSS.

Learning Objectives

Learn to:

  • Identify structure and elements of an XML file
  • Read simple DTD and verify XML files against them
  • Identify XML Schemas and the tools required to construct them
  • Construct a XSLT transform file to change XML into HTML
  • Construct a cascading style sheet (CSS) to enable easier viewing of an XML file via a Web browser

Instructors

Brent Laminack, a consultant and system administrator, has managed IT projects and administered UNIX environments since 1982. He has developed and taught courses for Georgia Tech's Professional Education program since 1990. A Certified Information Systems Security Professional, he received his B.S. in physics from Georgia Tech in 1979.

Jim Greenlee, is an award-winning lecturer with almost 20 years of professional experience as an IT educator. His professional service includes 15 years on the Computer Science faculty at Georgia Tech, where he developed and taught courses for both academic and corporate audiences. He has also worked as a certified trainer for Sun Microsystems. Mr. Greenlee currently runs his own technical training company, specializing in the Information Technology, Safety, and Recreational industries.
