Course Description
Get an overview of systems design and analysis and its implementation through integrated product and process development. The methods, techniques, and examples will be implemented by student integrated product teams in the Systems Engineering Laboratory Course, PSE 6006
Who Should Attend
- Engineers and scientists from industry and academia who need an understanding of system engineering design and analysis and how they are implemented through integrated product and process development.
How you Will Benefit
- Understand the role that systems design and analysis plays in product development
- Understand the need for integrated product and process and development and the use of a generic integrated product and process and development methodology for today's competitive environment
- Demonstrate established flexible methods using an integrated set of visual tools: QFD, Morphological Matrix, and Pugh Concept Selection Matrix
- Understanding of how the generic integrated product and process and development methodology for systems design and analysis can be used for a variety of complex systems and system of systems
What You Will Cover
- The Product Design Process for Complex Systems and System of Systems
- Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD)
- Application of the IPPD Approach for Highly Visible Government and Industry Projects
Course Materials
Participants receive a notebook and CD-ROM of course notes.
Certificate
This course is an elective for the Systems Engineering Certificate.

Daniel Schrage, professor and director of the Center for Aerospace Systems Engineering, served as an engineer, manager, and senior executive with the U.S. Army Aviation Systems Command
in St. Louis from 1974 to 1984, and participated in or lead most systems engineering and related activities for the Army aviation systems, including UH-60 Black Hawk utility transport helicopter
and a number of fixed wing aircraft modification programs. In recent years, Schrage expanded his Integrated Product and Process Development systems work to address "system of systems" methods and tools for industry and government, including the highly visible government program for future combat systems.
