Short Courses (weekday) (Civil Engineering)

1.   Geotechnical Foundation Systems   (CIVE 2004P)

This course reviews analytical procedures for the evaluation of shallow foundation systems (spread footings, structural mats/rafts) and deep foundations (driven piles, augered and bored piles, drilled shafts).
Civil Engineering
1 open section 12/15/2009

2.   Fundamentals of Engineering   (ELEC 1001P)

This refresher course in the fundamentals of science and engineering is designed to help those persons planning to take the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (formerly the EIT Exam).
Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Review, Mechanical Engineering, Test Prep Courses
Online e-course

3.   Enhanced In-Situ Testing for Geotechnical Analyses and Foundation Design   (CIVE 2001P)

The course provides an overview on the types of in-situ geotechnical tests (SPT, CPT, CPTu, DMT, PMT, VST) and geophysical methods (Refraction, CHT, DHT, SASW), and places special emphasis on the utilization of the expedient SCPTu (and related SDMTa) for efficient collection of site-specific data for geotechnical investigations
Civil Engineering
1 open section 3/22/2010-3/23/2010

4.   Seismic Site Characterization and Geotechnical Earthquake Hazards   (CIVE 2003P)

This course provides an overview on the assessment of seismic ground motions and soil parameters for geotechnical earthquake analyses.
Civil Engineering
1 open section 4/22/2010

5.   Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering   (CIVE 3004P)

Engineers, architects, and other professionals interested in obtaining a stronger foundation in seismic design of structures should attend this course. Participants should have a fundamental background in structural analysis and design.

6.   Wood Design   (CIVE 3005P)

This is an on-line course that will cover the basics of design for wood members in structures. It will be based on the National Design Specification for Wood Structures 2005 Edition (NDS) and uses the ASD method of design. Also addressed in the course will be the design of plywood diaphragms and shearwalls as well as Glu-Laminated members. The instruction is self-paced but must be done within the time frame allotted by DLPS.

8.   Application of the AISC Direct Analysis Method 1   (CIVE 3008P)

This course provides an introduction to the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Direct Analysis Method (DM). The course focuses on the fundamentals of the DM and emphasizes key practical considerations for second-order analysis and the stability design of framing systems using the DM. The instruction is self-paced but must be completed within 7 weeks after completing registration.

9.   Application of the AISC Direct Analysis Method 2   (CIVE 3009P)

This course provides an in-depth discussion of the application of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Direct Analysis Method (DM) to several advanced topics in structural design. The course topics include design of stability bracing, design of frames using web-tapered members, design of gabled frames and arches and consideration of flexible diaphragms. The instruction is self-paced but must be completed within 7 weeks after completing registration.
